Acanthus leaves decorate many of Morris's designs and they take on a central role in his Acanthus pattern. This classical motif lent itself well to repeating patterns and Morris believed that the larger-scale designs particularly suited smaller rooms, creating a more restful atmosphere compared to denser, smaller patterns. The use of soft tonal shades further enhances the design, infusing it with a sense of gentle movement. This design has been printed on a luxurious velvet.
