Winter aconite bulbs ‘in the green’ are ideal for spring planting. For autumn planting choose winter aconite bulbs. Plant winter aconite bulbs in a sunny position or in the partial shade of deciduous trees. Eranthis hyemalis thrive in reliably moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Aconites should be planted at a depth of 5cm (2”) and a distance of 5cm (2”) apart. For natural looking drifts, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land! These bulbs require reliably moist soil throughout summer. Water them in necessary until they are fully established. When growing winter aconites, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulbs for the following year.
