Description
In the Ancient Greek tale, when Heracles was sent to destroy the Hydra, Hera attempted to thwart his attempt by sending a crab to attack his feet. Heracles crushed the crab to death and Hera, in gratitude for the creature’s efforts, honoured the crab by placing it in the stars. The pendant takes the form of a circle, which the Ancient Greeks considered the most geometrically perfect shape. It holds a cluster of the stars, accurately forming the constellation, which is held suspended in space by delicate wire. The chain is a rope chain, reminiscent of both the sailors who have used these stars to navigate through the centuries and our coiling strands of DNA. The Astrology Collection is inspired by the way our knowledge of science is interwoven with the enduring legacy of the classical myths. For me, the two are inextricably linked, thus creating both our personal identities, and the stories which form our cultural DNA. Solid Sterling Silver can become tarnished over time, if this happens the most simple way to restore the necklace is to use Silver Dip. A polishing cloth may be used on the pendant but is not recommended for the chain as fibres may become caught and pulling the chain repetitively may weaken it.
