The fabulous foliage of this houseplant is so shiny that it looks almost metallic. The leaves of this Elephant Ear or Mirror Plant are dark burgundy on the underside, and glow red as the sun shines through! Maximum height: 70cm (28in). Spread: 40cm (16in). Place your Alocasia in a bright spot with plenty of natural light but not in direct sunlight. This rainforest plant enjoys humidity, so a bathroom or kitchen windowsill is ideal. Avoid draughts and rotate occasionally to ensure even growth. Water regularly to keep the compost moist at all times but not saturated; the plant will also enjoy being misted. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant feed. Reduce watering in winter, allowing the top of the compost to mostly dry out. Trim off faded leaves from the base.
