Description

Producing a stunning array of jet black double flowers which nod at the top of upright slender stems, these fabulous Columbines are eye-catchingly beautiful wherever you choose to grow them - be it in a sunny traditional mixed border or contemporary container. Aquilegias are really easy and reliable to grow, returning every year for a repeat performance, the nectar-rich flowers are great for attracting pollinators to the garden too. Grow aquilegias in sun or part shade in any fertile, moist, well drained soil. Plant directly outside in borders or patio containers. Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary. Caution: Contact with aquilegia sap may irritate the skin. Harmful if eaten.
