Buddleja alternifolia (Butterfly Bush) produces long graceful spikes of grey-green stems and leaves, with clusters of Pale Lilac flowers from July to September. The flower heads are sweet scented and attract masses of pollinating insects, such as Bees and Butterflies. This plant can be trained as a shrub or a small tree. Butterfly Bush has won the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, these are ideal for sunny borders and wildlife areas. Buddleja like to be grown in full sun or semi shade, in moist, well-drained soil. If planting in pots or containers, best to use soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
