Description
This is an ideal plant to attract pollinators with its unusual yellow bottlebrush flowers and highly aromatic, emitting a lemon scent when crushed. This is a compact variety making it perfect for smaller gardens and containers. It can also be trained up a trellis to create a gorgeous wall display. Plant Callistemon in a sheltered position in moist, well drained, non-alkaline soil in full sun. This callistemon is suitable for growing outdoors in mild areas and coastal gardens and is hardy down to 5°C (41°F). In colder gardens, it is best grown in a cool conservatory or planted in a patio container that can be moved to a warm position over winter. Lightly prune bottlebrush shrubs in autumn after flowering. Reduce the stems to fit the available space, and remove any damaged, crossing or wayward stems. If necessary, callistemon plants will tolerate occasional hard regenerative pruning. Deadhead faded bottlebrush flowers regularly to prolong their display.
