Cuphea Ignea 'Cigaratte Plant' Jumbo Plugs (6 Pack) Cuphea ignea 'Cigarette Plant', also known as the Firecracker Plant, is an evergreen shrub growing to around to 40cm in height, with lance-shaped leaves and tubular, bright orange-red flowers with ash-coloured tips throughout the summer - hence the reference to a cigarette. A vigorous grower which will produces masses of blooms, Cuphea is holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit so you can be assured that it has been trialled and tested as suitable for UK gardens. It's also recommended as an RHS Plant for Pollinators, attracting all manner of beneficial pollinators to the garden, so makes an ideal plant in a pot in the vegetable garden. Best grown in well-drained soil in a sheltered site in sun or partial shade - plants dislike hot sun so shade will need to be provided when necessary. While Cuphea is hardy, it's also frost tender, so is best grown in a pot where it can be moved undercover over winter. Alternatively, it can be grown in the garden through the summer and then lifted, potted and brought into your home over winter as an unusual and floriferous houseplant!
