We are delighted to bring to you this excellent example of European bentwood furniture. This particular chair is a stunning example manufactured by Mundus & the father & son team, J.J. Kohn in Poland. This chair would most likely have been used in an office setting & was made between 1914 & 1922. It still bears the remnants of the original manufacturer's label & it also has the number 2 stamped on the underside of the seat. We believe that this number two possibly indicates the second chair constructed in this range. This chair is not simply a piece of furniture, it is an example of the growing rivalry in Europe between bentwood furniture makers. J.J. Kohn were seen as the direct competitors to the Austrian furniture maker Gebrder Thonet (we have a table of his in stock). Mundas & J.J. Kohn created such furniture to represent the growing pride in Polish design. This truly is a special piece for both its aesthetic & historical value. There are signs of wear as shown in the pictures. There is also some very minor deformation of the wood as expected with a chair of this age.
