A wonderful 18th century Italian Gesso & Giltwood framed mirror. This is a nice piece of post renaissance work, splendidly carved & moulded into a classic baroque form. "Gesso" is a traditional mix of an animal glue binder, chalk, & white pigment, used to coat rigid surfaces such as wooden painting panels as an absorbent primer coat substrate for painting.On this particular piece the original Gesso work is complimented by a 19th century piece of mirrored glass & an updated wooden strut.
