Hayloft Allium Ampeloprasum - Wild Leek Bag Of 30 Bulbs
Description
New to us for 2024 this variety has been grown for hundreds of years as an edible yet also offers fabulous opportunity in a potager or ornamental garden. Foliage lasts longer than many and forms a distinct fan shape from which the strong stout flower stems emerge through June and July. These are borne as spherical clusters of up to 500 flowers and reach as tall as 1.5 metres – just perfect at the back of a border where the large, pinkish-purple, papery flowers add architectural interest through June and July. Loved by pollinators and happy in containers or open ground, Allium ampeloprasum will draw positive comments as well as admiring glances. Plants prefer a spot in moist, well-drained soil of any kind and are drought tolerant once they are established. Position in full sun with any aspect other than north-facing. With a spread of around 20cm, bulbs look best planted ‘en masse’ or in swathes through a border.
