Description
Create a beautiful hedge with Holly (Ilex), a reliable, easy-to-grow and popular choice which will grow without fuss in most gardens. This excellent evergreen hedging variety provides not only an attractive screen for privacy around your boundaries, but its spiky leaves add an extra level of security. What’s more, it’s an excellent habitat for wildlife and produces a showy display of bright red berries during autumn and winter. Easy to grow and maintain, either formally or left to grow to give a more natural look. Supplied as 30 - 45 cm potted plants (12 - 18"). Planting distance: 45cm (18") or 3 plants per metre for a single line hedge. Plant Holly in any moist, well drained garden soil, in full sun or semi-shade. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil. Feed and water Holly regularly until they are fully established. Prune young Holly trees and formal hedges in summer, removing any damaged stems and trimming the remaining growth to shape. In later years free standing Holly trees require very little pruning at all.
