Thompson & Morgan Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ is a wonderfully distinctive variety of this old favourite, with single, trumpet-shaped, pure-white flowers with rich ruby-red centres from late summer, alongside deep-green foliage. Thompson & Morgan Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ is an upright, multi-stemmed, spreading shrub and, although being reasonably high maintenance, blends well into landscapes where it is most attractive to bees and butterflies. Choose a position in full sun when growing Thompson & Morgan Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ and plant into fertile, reliably moist, well-drained soil. If growing in patio containers, use a good quality soil-based compost. Feed and water Thompson & Morgan Hibiscus ‘Red Heart’ regularly until fully established. In autumn, apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base of the plant to protect from winter cold. In late spring, prune by removing any stems that have died back or have been damaged over winter.
