Description
A stunning variety of hydrangea, selected after years of trials by French breeders. Satin white flowers emerge in elegant, lofty cones which gradually turn to a beautiful shade of strawberry, finishing a rich russet red as they mature. Profusions of mixed coloured blooms on erect red stems set off by vibrant green leaves create an eye-catching centrepiece in any area of your garden or patio, flowering from July and well into October. Easy to grow and extremely hardy, this delectable shrub is perfect for those tricky north facing positions. Grow in a sunny or semi-shaded position, in any non-alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict the growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: All parts of hydrangea will upset the stomach if eaten. The foliage may also aggravate skin allergies.
