A most intriguing variety and rarely offered for sale! The stiffly upright stems are topped with a slender flower head of upright facing, fiery orange blooms in late summer. Kniphofia “Erecta” forms a dense clump of strappy, evergreen foliage that happily tolerates periods of drought. Commonly known as Red Hot Poker, this hardy perennial is reliable and low maintenance, adding drama and architecture to the middle of perennial borders. Plant Kniphofia bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Grow red hot poker plants in a sunny or semi-shaded position, in any rich, fertile, well-drained soil. Position the bareroot so that the crown of the plant is just a few centimetres below soil level. Water well to settle the soil around the roots. Water regularly until fully established. Cut back faded red hot poker flower heads in autumn. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of torch lilies in spring to maintain their vigour.
