B&Q Lincolnshire Fruits Red Windsor - (Sweet Lillibet) Bareroot Apple 7 Litre Tree
Description
This apple variety is a red sport (mutation) of Alkmene, displaying a noticeably deeper red hue and a less Cox-like appearance compared to the original Alkmene. Although faint traces of the characteristic Cox russet striping are present, it is grown on a small scale for commercial purposes in the UK.Alkmene is occasionally referred to as Early Windsor, leading to the naming of this redder mutation as Red Windsor. Adding to the complexity, the marketing organization behind this variant initiated a nationwide schools competition in the UK to devise a new name, and "Sweet Lilibet" emerged as the chosen one. Consequently, this is the name under which you are most likely to find it in supermarkets, typically making its appearance towards the end of September.
