Williston Forge The Mccrea console table is a truly bespoke piece of furniture. Handcrafted from a single piece of solid beam each console table will differ slightly in appearance due to their wealth of history. Handmade by a small independent business in England, each hallway table begins by meticulously choosing the best solid beam, and sanded to bring out the natural grains, knots, grooves and nicks. A light layer of varnish or oak stain is used to help draw out all the character to the surface. The stain also provides a protective layer to the timber. The shelf is then varnished to protect the wood and to make it easy to clean. Every console table is different and has a little story to tell and may have nail holes, shallow notches cut out- this is where other beams most likely crossed over, and aged cracks and dips. The beams are cut to size, sanded down to remove any dirt and splinters and then finished with a clear, satin varnish to finish the timber off in a way that does not overwrite the natural colours in the wood.
