Description
This harrowing film was produced in May 1945 at the personal insistence of US General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was so shocked by what he witnessed with his own eyes at the first concentration camps to be liberated that he ordered that this film should be made as a lasting testament to the barbarism which had occurred under the Nazi regime. This unspeakable footage was usd in evidence at the Nuremberg trials and provides the ultimate primary source which illustrates the inexcusable horrors discovered by the advancing Allied forces. This film contains highly distressing scenes of horrific suffering from the notorious camps at Arnsdat, Buchenwald, Nordhausen and Dachau among others. The film also features footage of Josef Kramer, the Camp Commandant at Belsen, dubbed The Beast of Belsen by camp inmates. Kramer was a notorious Nazi war criminal who was known to have been personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of inmates. He was convicted of war crimes and hanged in Hamelin prison after World War II. This was the film which helped to secure the verdict which convicted Josef Kramer and dozens like him.
