Rhododendron 'Ramapo' - This shrub is a very tolerant variety as it is fully hardy in low temperatures and resistant to heat - perfect for growing in sunny, acidic borders where others of its type would not survive! Rhododendron 'Ramapo' produces a mound of blue-green evergreen foliage which provides year round interest, joined by pretty mauve flowers in April for a beautiful springtime show. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
