Description
Sambucus Black Tower is a dense and compact variety with an upright habit that’s ideal for smaller borders or a standalone specimen. The large leaves emerge green but darken to deep burgundy when grown in full sun. Flattened heads of fragrant pink flowers complement the dark foliage witch are replaced by glossy black elderberries. This shrub is easy to grow and makes a great focal point in any garden. Height: 2.5m (8”). Spread: 1.2m (4). Grow Sambucus in any moist but well drained soil in full sun or dappled shade, plants will also survive on poor, chalky soils. Sambucus plants require very little pruning except for general maintenance and shaping in winter. However, if they become too large after a few years, they will also respond well to hard, restrictive pruning. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
