Thompson & Morgan Azalea Madame Van Hecke 3 Litre Potted Plant X 2
Description
Rhododendron 'Madame AD. van Hecke' is a neat and compact variety of Azalea that is just as effective in beds and borders as it is in a container on the patio. The dark green foliage is contrasted well by the deep red, funnel shaped blooms. Hardy and easy to care for, this fantastic shrubs is a low maintenance way to add year round interest. Grow Rhododendrons in moist, well drained, acidic soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many dwarf Rhododendrons can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Rhododendron plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Rhododendrons are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply. Water Rhododendron plants regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidicity in the soil over time. Feed Rhododendrons in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acidic-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Rhododendrons will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. If necessary, lightly prune Rhododendron plants in June to remove damaged shoots and restrict size.
