Description
The Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus is a hardy corm that belongs to the genus Gladiolus, and has other names such as Gladiolus nanus ‘Byzantinus’ or Byzantine gladiolus. These corms produce slender and swaying stems of cerise pink flowers that have a tapering shape and a delicate look. They are different from the common sword lilies that are more flamboyant and colourful. They are perfect for planting in full sun, where they will bridge the gap between spring bulbs and summer perennials. They also multiply and naturalise well once established, forming dense clumps of foliage. They are ideal for planting among alliums or ornamental grasses, creating a lovely contrast and association. They also make charming cut flowers that will add a touch of elegance and grace to your home. They grow up to 90cm (35") tall and 10cm (4") wide, and bloom in May and June.
