Description
A later cropping variety producing good crops in August and September. Blueberry “Duke” bears firm, medium sized, light blue berries with a sweet flavour. Upright bushes can become laden with up to 20 lbs of fruit with mature. The delicious fruits retains their freshness longer than most varieties too. With pretty spring flowers and lovely autumn foliage, this self-fertile Blueberry looks equally at home in the kitchen garden, allotment or mixed shrub borders. Blueberries required a well-drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix ericaceous compost and John Innes No.3. If possible, blueberries should be watered with rain water because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year, begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth and maintain a healthy plant framework. Ideal For: Patio, Kitchen Gardens Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Sun or Semi Shade Height: Up to 150cm (59 in) Spread: Up to 150 (59 in) Ease of Growing: Easy for all Ease of Aftercare: Easy for all.
