Description
The salad burnet is becoming increasingly popular in todays food market, due to the health benefits and unique flavour it can add to refreshing beverages and summer salads! You can expect tall spikes of coral-like crops to appear from May all the way through to August, providing colour and quirkiness to your garden! A reliable and flavoursome hardy perennial! Direct sow Salad Burnet seed outdoors from March to May. Grow Salad Burnet in a well prepared, moist, seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½in) in drills 30cm apart. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to 23cm (9in) apart. Fortnightly sowings will ensure an ongoing supply of young Burnet leaves for adding to salads. Water Salad Burnet during dry periods to ensure that the soil remains moist. Burnet leaves can be harvested 6-8 weeks after sowing, by selecting a few leaves from each plant. Salad Burnet is best harvested regularly and while the leaves are small, as older, larger leaves become increasingly bitter.
