Description
The glossy, semi-evergreen foliage of Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ emerges in shades of lime green and yellow, intensifying as summer progresses, before turning fiery shades of orange and red in autumn. Delicate white, lightly fragranced blooms are borne from July to October, complementing the striking foliage. Bred to have a dense, compact habit, Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ is a great addition to borders and perfect for growing in patio containers. Choose a position in full sun when growing Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ and plant in any fertile, well-drained garden soil. If growing Abelia in patio containers, use a good-quality soil-based compost. Feed and water container-grown Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’ plants regularly. To prolong the flowering season, deadhead faded flowers. In exposed areas, or those where winters are particularly severe, apply a deep mulch of bark around the base of the plants in autumn, in order to protect the roots from winter cold, taking care not to mound up against the stem. Alternatively, Abelia plants can be protected with horticultural fleece. Trim lightly and remove any shoots which spoil the symmetry of the plant in late spring.
