Description
Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ is a particularly striking cultivar, awarded an RHS AGM for its garden performance. Pale yellow flowers borne in spring make a fabulous contrast with the deep purple foliage, and the red berries that follow stand out beautifully against the dark leaves. As autumn approaches, the foliage responds by turning a vibrant, scarlet red before falling to the ground for the winter. Loved by pollinating insects, and very useful in wildlife areas, Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ makes a colourful specimen shrub. Choose a position in full sun or partial when growing Berberis ‘Dart’s Red Lady’ and plant in reliably moist, well-drained soil. Japanese Barberry plants are extremely resilient and will grow on many different soil types, however they should never been grown in areas which are prone to waterlogging. Remove dead, diseased or damaged growth and trim back lightly each year after flowering, in order to keep hedges in good shape.
