Despite originating in the Far East, this hardy shrub thrives in the UK climate too. Commonly known as Heavenly Bamboo, Nandina Domestica has a bamboo-like habit, growing upright with purple lanceolate leaves. During the autumnal period, it bears impressive red berries, making an interesting show-stopping display. Best grown as a specimen plant for full effect, well-suited to larger borders or patio containers. Grow Nandina in a moist, but well-drained soil in a sheltered position in full sun. Plants will tolerate a wide range of soils, from sand to chalk and clay.
