Cos Lettuce ‘Little Gem’ is an early maturing variety, one of the first to do so, which will produce small compact plants with a crisp, sweet tasting heart. This variety is a gardener’s favourite and is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner, fantastic for growing under cloches with exceptional resistance to root aphid. Height and spread: 20cm (8").T&M's easy starter plants are delivered ready for planting at the correct time so that you can enjoy bigger, earlier and tastier vegetables. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting outdoors.. Grow lettuce in well prepared, fertile, moist soil in sun or semi shade. Space plants 23cm (9") apart and cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects.Water lettuce frequently and hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing. Dry weather may cause heads of lettuce plants to bolt so watering is particularly critical during the 2 weeks before harvesting. A thick mulch applied around the plants will help to retain moisture in the soil.
