Description
Verbena ‘Royal Dream’ is prolific, beautiful and great for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. From T&M’s own breeding, this variety is just like the original Verbena bonariensis only half the size - perfect if you’re planning a container display or you’re filling a space near the front of a border. Planted in groups, the long-lasting perennial provides a bushy, dense display of upright twiggy stems each bearing clusters of pretty mauve blooms all summer long and lasting well into autumn. Drought tolerant and low maintenance, this hardy perennial grows back every year. It’s Great for cottage or wildlife gardens as well as a more contemporary style. Pot up Verbena bonariensis plants and grow them on in frost free conditions, for transplanting into borders later on. When all risk of frost has passed and plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant outdoors in a sheltered position in any moist, well drained soil in full sun. Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. Verbena flowers do not require dead heading.In autumn, apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant throughout the winter months. Cut back the old stems when new shoots emerge at the base of the plant in spring.
