Rock Rose Sunset, also known as Sun Rose, is a low-growing shrub that is a must-have for hot, sunny borders and gravel gardens. The bright pink, tissue-paper blooms are borne in abundance from June to August, each lasting just a day, before a new bloom opens to take its place. Green-grey, wavy, evergreen foliage provides year round interest and colour. Rock Rose Sunset enjoys poor, dry soils where many plants would struggle, and even copes well in coastal conditions. Although hard to around -5°C, rock roses will appreciate a sheltered position with some winter protection. Choose a sheltered positon in full sun when growing Rock Rose Sunset. Cistus plants will happily grown in poor soils. When planting in patio containers, use a good quality soil-based compost. Feed and water Rock Rose Sunset regularly throughout the growing season while young plants becomes established. To encourage a bushy habit, pink back young plants after flowering. Pruning Cistus is best undertaken in mid spring once temperatures have started to rise. Remove any damaged, diseased of misplaced shoots and, if needed, lightly trim shoots to maintain a good shape. Avoid hard pruning as Cistus plants will not regenerate from old wood.
