Low-maintenance, compact Blueberry ‘BerryBux’ is not only an attractive feature for a patio, border or small space with a very long season of interest, but it’s also incredibly productive too. Its dense, bushy habit supports a heavy crop of tasty and nutritious fruit from July onwards every year. These firm, sweet-tasting berries are delicious when eaten fresh, ideal for snacking or for making into a rich jam. Along with a great summer harvest, you also get to enjoy the ornamental value of a profusion of bee-friendly flowers in spring and wonderful crimson foliage in autumn. Neat and attractive, grow these petite hardy shrubs in containers, borders or even as a low hedge and, with minimum effort, you’ll benefit from a long-lasting display which provides interest through the seasons.Blueberries require a well drained, acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.If possible, blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds.
