Description
This eye-catching Callistemon with its crimson flowers and evergreen foliage is sure to keep the garden coloured. First its evergreen foliage in winter, then a gorgeous bright crimson flowers that bloom in late spring and summer then followed by a stunning orange in Autumn. These are known for their long display and unusual flowers, they can be left as a bushy shrub or can even be trained up a trellis to provide a fabulous wall display. Plant Callistemon in a sheltered position in moist, well drained, non-alkaline soil in full sun. This callistemon is suitable for growing outdoors in mild areas and coastal gardens and is hardy down to 5°C (41°F). In colder gardens, it is best grown in a cool conservatory or planted in a patio container that can be moved to a warm position over winter. Lightly prune bottlebrush shrubs in autumn after flowering. Reduce the stems to fit the available space, and remove any damaged, crossing or wayward stems. If necessary, callistemon plants will tolerate occasional hard regenerative pruning. Deadhead faded bottlebrush flowers regularly to prolong their display.
